NovoDermaPowered by Growth Factors

The science behind recovery

NovoSerum: a cell-free concentrate of human growth factors.

NovoSerum is a patented, cell-free cosmetic ingredient derived from purified human umbilical cord serum, collected from volunteer donors after a healthy birth. It is the core ingredient in Novo Derma Post-Procedure Cream.

What it is made from

Responsibly sourced. Cell-free by design.

Umbilical cord serum is sourced through a U.S.-based, FDA-regulated cord blood bank, then processed to strip out cellular material. It contains no stem cells and no living cells.

What remains is a concentrate of human growth factors — roughly 350 molecules, proteins, cell signalers, nutrients, peptides and vitamins.

In some formulations this is further combined with 12 antioxidants, four neuro-peptides, six collagen and matrix stimulants, and 24 moisturizers.

Growth factors are naturally occurring signaling proteins that communicate with the cells involved in the skin’s normal repair process.

The science of skin repair

How skin naturally heals after a procedure

Every aesthetic procedure involving controlled micro-injury — microneedling, chemical peels, RF, laser, and more — relies on the skin’s natural healing cycle. Once the epidermis is disrupted, the body initiates a predictable metabolic response: inflammation clears damaged cells, and growth factors act as biochemical messengers that coordinate repair.

These signals activate fibroblasts, the skin’s “factory cells,” which begin producing new collagen, elastin, and extracellular matrix. This rebuilding phase is where improved texture, tone, and overall skin quality is delivered.

The skin's natural repair process: growth factors activate fibroblasts in the dermis, which produce collagen and matrix — the building blocks of new tissue

Hover or tap a step to follow the natural repair cycle

  1. A professional aesthetic procedure disrupts the epidermis, starting the skin's natural healing cycle.

  2. The body's first response: inflammation clears damaged cells and prepares the site for repair.

  3. Growth factors act as biochemical messengers, coordinating the repair response.

  4. The skin's "factory cells" begin producing new collagen, elastin, and extracellular matrix.

  5. As the matrix reforms, the skin becomes stronger, smoother, and more resilient — improved texture and tone.

  6. The repair cycle completes as the skin's barrier and architecture are restored.

Where Novo Derma fits

Supporting the normal regenerative process

Our Post Procedure Cream is designed to support this normal regenerative process. NovoSerum, our patented, non-prescription topical formula with cell-free growth factors, supports that healing process with the same types of messengers the skin naturally uses during tissue repair and regeneration. By incorporating Novo Derma Post Procedure Cream as advanced post-procedure aftercare, med spa clients are using a science-based, professional-grade product to support the skin’s normal recovery process, naturally.

Clinical results

A double-blind study at Northwestern University Medical School reported significant increases in procollagen and glycosaminoglycans in under a month.

Each subject was treated on one site with NovoSerum and on the opposite site with vehicle only. The study was conducted under double-blind conditions by Dr. Robert Lavker, Director of Dermatology Research at Northwestern University.

Procollagen — NovoSerum site vs. vehicle only

SubjectChange
Subject 11.1%
Subject 241.4%
Subject 347.5%
Subject 435.8%
Subject 517.7%
Subject 613.0%

5 of 6 subjects showed increases — average increase of approximately 28.7%.

GAGs — NovoSerum site vs. vehicle only

SubjectChange
Subject 180.0%
Subject 243.0%
Subject 358.7%
Subject 416.7%
Subject 537.8%
Subject 622.3%

5 of 6 subjects showed increases — average increase of approximately 48.4%.

~29%

Average procollagen increase

~48%

Average GAG increase

NovoSerum-treated skin showed an average increase of approximately 29% in procollagen and 48% in GAGs compared to the vehicle-only control — both critical markers of skin repair, collagen production and skin quality.

Study summary

Why the markers matter

Download the white paper (PDF)

NovoSerum, a cell-free extract from umbilical cord serum, contains non-cell platelets which, when stimulated as in wounding, release platelet-derived growth factors. These specific, diverse growth factors are primarily responsible for triggering pluripotent stem cells to modify and begin the repair and reconstruction process resulting from a wound, scarring, stretch marks, abrasions and lacerations. That includes enhanced collagen production and restoration of the damaged cellular matrix — skin — by the glycosaminoglycans (GAGs).
